How Dr. Saad Saad Had The Opportunity To Do Pediatric Surgery In Saudi Arabia

Dr. Saad Saad had the unique opportunity of serving as the personal pediatric surgeon for the Saudi royal family in the 1980s. There were two reasons for why he was chosen for this. The first reason was that he was a board-certified pediatric surgeon in the United States. The second reason was that he was fluent in both Arabic and English. He ended up staying in Saudi Arabia for almost five years where he performed surgery on children of the royal family as well as other children in that country.

He was born in Palestine and grew up in Kuwait. Dr. Saad Saad say he has seven brothers and sisters. Two of his siblings are also surgeons, two have earned Ph.D.s, two are engineers with masters degrees, and one is a teacher. His family was poor so there was a big focus in this family on education so that they would grow up to have better lives. He graduated from college 47 years ago with his medical degree. He went to the United Kingdom to do his internship and then after two years moved to America.

While in Saudi Arabia Dr. Saad Saad performed surgery at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital. He performed every type of surgery while there, ranging from very simple ones to cases that were very complex. Some patients needed to be flown abroad for surgery and the hospital always fully considered his professional opinion on which patients could be handled in Saudi Arabia and which needed surgery performed elsewhere.

In addition to performing pediatric surgeries in New Jersey since that time he has also performed surgeries in the Holy Land. He has flown to Jerusalem on eight occasions where he performed surgery both in the city and on the West Bank. Dr. Saad Saad does surgeries for free on children who come from poor families like he did. Between Saudi Arabia, New Jersey, and the Holy Land he has now performed thousands of surgeries over the course of his near five decade long career. During this career he has created new surgical procedures to improve patient outcomes and has also patented two inventions he has designed to help him perform surgeries.
