End Citizens United Targets Four Vulnerable Conservatives for 2018 Races.

There are very few situations as dire in the American government as the rise of dark money and political lobbyists co-opting the legislative process. We can date the rise in dark money all the way back to 2010 when the Supreme Court ruled on a controversial case regarding the right-wing propaganda group, Citizens United. Citizens United hard put forth a twisted argument that companies were people and that it was merely an extension of their freedom of speech that they be allowed to donate at-will to politicians. This obviously subverts the entire legislative process when billionaires and millionaires can bribe politicians legally. As a result, End Citizens United has been working hard to help elect progressive legislators who are able to put a constitutional amendment on the table.

End Citizens United is a political action committee that has been becoming more and more active in the political scene since they were first established in 2015. End Citizens United put themselves on the map during the Presidential Election in 2016 as they tried to support candidates who would introduce legislation to combat the rising tide of dark money. Unfortunately, Donald Trump was able to still win in a controversial election that may end up with an asterisk in the history books. Still, End Citizens United isn’t letting that define their work as the PAC re-committed to aiding the progressive cause during the 2018 Congressional Elections. In order to do that, ECU will be helping fundraise for candidates that are targeting vulnerable house seats held by Republicans in California. The four most vulnerable seats belong to prominent House Republicans and they include Dana Rohrabacher, who Paul Ryan had said was ‘probably paid by Putin’ during a secretly recorded tape. Other Republicans that are vulnerable include Rep. Darrell Issa from Vista, Rep Duncan Hunter from Alpine, and Rep Mimi Walters from Irvine.

Since the election of Donald Trump, there has been a surge in people willing to donate on behalf of the work being done at End Citizens United. As a result, End Citizens United has seen some shockingly good fundraising numbers from grassroots sources. After raising over $25 million during the 2016 Presidential election, it looks like End Citizens United will once again be on pace for similar numbers. Right now, End Citizens United has locked in $11 million as of the last financial disclosure in October and they are trajecting for $30 million total.

The fight for the power of the American vote is always going on and destructive administrations like the one being run by President Trump are only making the fight harder. The 2018 Congressional Elections will help to set the table to once again push for the rights of the American people and End Citizens United will be there the entire way.
